PCLReader Program End User License Agreement This PAGE TECHNOLOGY MARKETING, INC. ("PageTech") End User License Agreement accompanies a PageTech software product and related explanatory written materials ("Software"). The term Software shall also include any upgrades, updates or modified versions of the Software listed in Exhibit A licensed to you by PageTech. The copy of the Software is licensed to you as the end user. RIGHTS GRANTED. You must read this Agreement carefully before indicating acceptance by using the Software. PageTech grants to you a nonexclusive license to use the Software, provided that you agree to the following: You may install the Software in a single location on a hard disk and make a backup copy of the Software. Under no circumstances is this software to be sold, bartered, traded, rented, bundled, sublicensed or provided as part of a commercial product or service. PageTech reserves distribution and usage rights not expressly granted. The Software may not be distributed with, or as part of, any commercial product without the express written permission of PageTech. The Software is owned by PageTech and its structure, organization and code are the valuable trade secrets of PageTech. The Software is also protected by United States Copyright Law and International Treaty provisions. You agree not to modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to discover the source code of the Software. Except as expressly authorized in this Agreement, Licensee may not create derivative works based upon the Software, or sub-license, distribute, transfer, copy, reproduce or modify the Software, or allow any third party to access or use the Software (including any deletion of code or addition of code to the Software). Except as stated above, this Agreement does not grant you any intellectual property rights in the Software. PageTech retains all right, title and interest in and to all copyrights, trade marks, service marks, trade secrets and other proprietary rights in the Software not specifically granted to Licensee herein. NO WARRANTY. The Software is being delivered to you AS IS and PageTech makes no warranty as to its use or performance. PAGETECH DOES NOT AND CANNOT WARRANT THE PERFORMANCE OR RESULTS YOU MAY OBTAIN BY USING THE SOFTWARE OR DOCUMENTATION. PAGETECH MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT WILL PAGETECH OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY LOST PROFITS OR LOST SAVINGS, EVEN IF AN PAGETECH REPRESENTATIVE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY THIRD PARTY. GOVERNING LAW AND GENERAL PROVISIONS. This Agreement will be governed by the laws of San Diego County, California USA, excluding the application of its conflicts of law rules. This Agreement will not be governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, the application of which is expressly excluded. If any part of this Agreement is found void and unenforceable, it will not affect the validity of the balance of the Agreement, which shall remain valid and enforceable according to its terms. You agree that the Software will not be shipped, transferred or exported into any country or used in any manner prohibited by the United States Export Administration Act or any other export laws, restrictions or regulations. This Agreement shall automatically terminate upon failure by you to comply with its terms. This Agreement may only be modified in writing signed by an authorized officer of PageTech. Should any litigation arise between the parties relating to this Agreement, each party shall be responsible for its own costs and expenses including reasonable attorney fees. Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (b)(3)(ii) of The Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at 252.227-7013. Contractor/manufacturer is PageTech. ACCEPTANCE. PageTech's web-based registration processing system will not permit the download of this Software unless the Licensee agrees to the terms and conditions of PageTech's license agreement. Licensee's unconditional acceptance of the Software license is provided by a "I Agree" response to a web page query or the software download instructions will be withheld. Licensee's unconditional acceptance of the Software is also provided by a "I Agree" response to get past the initial splash page within the program. If you do not agree with the terms and conditions of this Agreement, remove the software from your hard disk. SOFTWARE SUPPORT. Web-based or email technical support is provided at PageTech's sole discretion via the Support Form located at: http://www.pagetech.com/supportform.php. In conjunction with completing the required support form, Licensees must also run the TechSupport.exe program provided to gather all the required information needed for PageTech to understand the problem. Under no circumstance will the PageTech ever provide technical support via the telephone. EXHIBIT A: The configuration of the Software provided in this Agreement includes the following program's and functionality: PCLReader.exe: Converts PCL files into .BMP, .PCX, .DCX, .TIF, .PNG and .PDF file formats. Views and Searches PCL. Prints PCL on virtually any Windows printer driver (except PDF or otherdrivers that output file formats). Extracts text from PCL. Restrictions/Limitations: * Initial Splash screen requires "I Agree" response to the license agreement. * Inhibits printing to any PDF, TIFF or other file format via a third party printer driver. * Converts up to 2,000 page PCL files into raster formats only with watermark, only the first page is without watermark. * Options to convert PCL into vector EM, WMF and PMF output file types are unavailable (grayed-out). * Option to convert PCL into vector PDF output file type is unavailable (grayed-out). * Option to View PCL in vector mode in View PCL and Search Text dialogs are unavailable (grayed-out). * Only one instance of the program can be running on the same PC at the same time. * Views, prints or extracts texts from PCL files with a maximum of 2,000 pages per file. TNXDumpG.exe: Formats the Text Extraction (.TNX) files into various ASCII text formats. Use of this Software indicates your acceptance of the foregoing Agreement. PCLReader Shortcommings

The program failed to extract the text from either a single page or multipage (max 6 pages) text-based output to a HP6122 despite various attempts at changing the input parameters. The output was in landscape format. The tiff output was properly constructed (except for the page header which was in a very large font and seemed to comprise a small and Omnipage correctly performed the text conversion on the tiff images. PCLReader also failed to run on a Win98se machine. The application was to capture the output from a third party machine which only printed results and deposit them in a database for further processing

PCL Reader

The program was helpful in converting a PRN file from the output of a 15 year old DOS program into a useful document.

could not extract ascii text

I tried pcl reader, pcl codes, and pcl tool. None of them could extract the ASCII text from the pcl file that I captured from my parallel port. I cannot change the printer type on the system that generates the pcl output. I did not test the program further at that point.
